Dr. Pickar is the J. Stanley Johnson Professor, Visiting Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His work at Caltech is focused on development of optimum strategies for technological product development, particularly in light of the rapid advances in computing and networking that have essentially forced product development cycles to shrink drastically. He is a founder of the Entrepreneurial Fellowship Program, and teaches undergraduate courses in product design and entrepreneurship.

Professor Pickar comes to Caltech after having been based in industry for many years, most recently holding the post of Senior Vice President, Engineering and Technology, at Allied Signal Aerospace. He is a graduate of Queens College, City University of New York (B.S.) and the University of Pennsylvania (M.S., Ph.D., Physics).

The Executive Director of the EFP, Ms. Rottner has co-founded three technology companies. They include a spin out from Caltech that develops web-based tools for education and science; an incubator for technology transfer from a nonprofit R&D lab; and an electro-optics manufacturer formed within the incubator. She is the chairwoman of the Program Committee of the Caltech-MIT Enterprise Forum, and is a member of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).

Ms. Rottner holds three B.A. degrees from Eastern Michigan University in written communication, philosophy and literature. She also studied engineering for two years as an officer candidate at the United States Air Force Academy.

David is an experienced entrepreneur having aided the start-up of five successful consumer technology related ventures in just the last five years — idealab!, Goto.com (now Overture Services NASD: OVER), Tickets.com (NASD: TIXX), PayMyBills.com (now Paytrust), and The Enchanted Lighting Company, LLC. He has helped manage these businesses in all phases of development from production to leading their technology and product development, as well as, guiding their business strategies. In addition to producing enterprise level technology infrastructures, he also designed award-winning user interfaces for the Tickets.com and PayMyBills web products. David has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The California Institute of Technology.
